Empowering and supporting Haringey adults with severe mental illness to access community services and activities. Have your voice heard in improving access to health services and physical health activities.

The SMI Support Service is part of the Haringey Wellbeing Network and supports Haringey residents aged 18 years old and over who are living with a severe mental illness (SMI) this includes Severe Depression, Complex PTSD, Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder and Personality disorders.

What the service offers

This service aims to improve access to services, engagement with services, and achieving more positive outcomes for adults with SMI throughout Haringey.

In order to do this, we will work through a co-production approach, collaborating with services and Haringey residents living with SMI, listening to their experiences, ideas, and feedback to better understand the support they need.

These insights will help shape the SMI Support Service and inform how NHS, housing, and community services can better support adults with severe mental illness. This process will also identify any gaps in support and highlight additional needs, helping to ensure that services across the borough are designed around what people need and deliver the right support they deserve.

This will include:

  • Provide person-centered, strengths-based support to residents with SMI to help identify goals, build confidence, and access meaningful activities.
  • Support residents to understand and navigate available wellbeing, lifestyle, and physical health services.
  • Promote self-management, resilience, and improved wellbeing.
  • Provide health coaching, motivational support, and practical navigation to help residents engage with services.
  • Build confidence and capability among partner staff to engage residents with mental health needs such as through sharing feedback.
  • Facilitate supported introductions and warm handovers to ensure smooth transitions into community activities.
  • Support residents to access annual physical health checks and ensure residents receive follow-up support.
