What is it?

The wellbeing Advocacy Service is part of the HWN and supports Haringey residents with moderate to severe mental health problems, towards better wellbeing and independence.

The service supports clients to manage their personal or social circumstances alongside their illness by making substantial changes to their lives and improving their overall wellbeing. This is achieved by signposting members to community groups and activities, information and time-limited advocacy, service referrals, and wellbeing support plans for up to 3 months.

Please note – no statutory advocacy will be provided; people requiring IMHA, IMCA, Care Act advocacy, Best Interest Assessment advocacy or other formal representation must be referred on to the relevant advocacy service(s).

How does it work?

  • Use motivational interviewing to complete personalised assessments and goal plans, focused on improving resilience and self-confidence
  • Assist with service navigation, understanding and exercising choices about support and making onward referrals, primarily using social prescribing
  • Provide time-limited support and encouragement to complete identified goals
  • Offer time-limited, issue-based advocacy to assist with making decisions about your treatment, care and support
  • Offer time-limited, issue-based advocacy to assist with solutions to social, personal or practical issues that are of concern to you, by ensuring that your voice is heard and that you understand and can utilise your civil and human rights
  • Help develop your own support systems, including self-advocacy and self-management, and so reduce your need to access intensive, high-cost services.

The activities and the advocacy service have saved my life, before coming here I was so alone, untrusting and in pain…the network has become that support I needed, I have made some great friends here and have started to trust people, ever so slightly.
