Psychological trauma is a major public health issue affecting the health of people, families and communities. Recent evidence from the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) studies (originally in the US and more recently replicated in England and Wales) clearly show the enormous burdens that trauma places not only on mental health services but also across social care and physical health and justice provision.
Trauma informed practice aims to equip workers and organisational structures across the health, social care, and justice sectors with the knowledge and skills to mitigate some of these negative and costly effects. Due to the potentially widespread beneficial effects that a trauma informed approach may have.
