Porto Marathon Fundraiser from North London Lioness

Jo Strong of the North London Lionesses Australian Football team has run the marathon in Porto, Portugal to raise money for Mind in Haringey.

Jo's Story:

"I’ve been a part of the Lions family for the last 3 years but spent a long time on the side lines with injury.

12 months ago out of the blue, I was diagnosed with severe depression. I never saw it coming or really understood the extent of what this illness is and can do and just how serious it is. It really doesn’t discriminate for anyone and I just thought this is ‘how I am’. I’m now recovering and I feel fortunate that I’m in a position to access therapy and the medication I need. Many others aren’t or have anywhere they can reach out too and feel they are be listened too. MIND in Haringey is a lifeline for saving people’s lives and providing a safe place but as with all other charities, it’s survival is reliant on people’s incredible generosity and kindness to donate.

The reason for this particular one is I found a community that I could belong to and feel safe with in the London Lions and Haringey is part of our local community, the money raised will help local people

Thank you for taking the time to read this and any donation is amazing, it’s something that means a lot to me and will get me through the long miles!"

Jo has since run the marathon, but is still hoping to reach her target of 500. To donate, please visit her fundraising page here:
